Eye Examinations
You should normally have an eye examination (also called a Sight Test) once every two years, unless you are advised that you require one more frequently due to your personal or family history. In the UK only fully qualified Optometrists are allowed to perform them.
During the eye examination the Optometrist will carry out a combination of tests to both check the level of vision that you have and also check the health of the eye. The objective of the eye exam is therefore not only to confirm if your vision can be improved by the use of glasses, but also to ensure that you don’t have any underlying ocular problems of which you may not be aware.
Once the eye exam has been completed the Optometrist is obliged by law to give you a copy of the prescription and you are then free to purchase glasses from wherever you wish.
